NCC company camp

Although Alistair has posted, I just want to share my point of view.

"March holidays is just around the corner" this is what i thought like 3 weeks ago. But i Had two camps, the NCC company camp and spec course. Let me begin with the NCC company camp(7 to 8 March'08).

We were supposed to fall in at around 2.00pm. Coincidentally, there was PTM(Parent-Teacher-Meeting) day.So, some of us specially came early to get the specialists' booklets for the other part C's to study for specialists' course. We studied until about 12.30pm and we went for lunch, but not all of us.

I went and sat down at the steps in front of the Saint Joseph's statue and looked at the sky and the scenery around me. I reflected on my thoughts. Then, Tian Kai came down and sat down and talked to me. I was in denial and i said that i had no problem at all. After a while, I managed to go to lunch with rest.

We went to the Tanglin CC to eat lunch. We fell in at 2.15pm and that started the camp. We took attendance. Some of the part Cs went for PTM while the rest of us had to do Drills with an IC giving commands. I had some problems with my legs so i fall out to rest. Later on, we were broken up into C1 and C2 to do cmmand and conquer which means to give commands to a squad or a platoon. When It was my turn, I was totally blanked as i did not know all the drills and were stressed by the fact that I would let my partmates down if i stll kept them at attention. Our CSM (Company Sergeant Major), Daniel Liang comforted me. I still could not handle the stress. In the end, I broke down and my friends comforted me. I felt lost an dhad lost my confidence and had screwed up the excellent oppurtunity that came knocking on my door. I could have used this chance to prove to the part, specialists and more importantly, myself, that I have improved. But I screwed up! Nvm, moving on.....

Then after that, it was PT time! Sir Thiaghu talked to us team bonding. TK(Tian Kai) led the part in stretching. We then ate a buffet. The appetizer was 2 stes of push-ups. The rest of it, I am not pretty sure.... I was exhausted after the running. We also went into sit-up postions with our hands interlocked, and tired to force each other up. W e were split into pairs and asked to do push-ups in a pair. I feel that everyone should cooperate and work as a part so that we can soar to greater heights rather than some lagging behind.

We had the night walk after that. It was totally awesome. We got to talk to most of our partmates which i always loved to. At the start of the walk, we sang 'It ends tonight" it was freaking cool la. We walked through Botanics Garden to Dempsy Hill area to Orchard Road. The view at dempsy was breathtaking. I wished i had brought a camera with me that night. We stopped at Burger King where we had our supper. John was actually missing but he appeared soon after. After that, a few others and I went for the catholic societies camp for a while. Lateron, we received the message that the part is suuffering as somethign like they had wanteed to bathe and Jun hong is screwing them up. We rushed over but were called back. At about 1.30am in the wee hours of the morning, we went back to our bunks and slept. At 3.40pm, The Part Cs got woken up. I was totally confused as of what was going on as i thought it was 6+ already(by the way, this is the time we were supposed to wake up). We had Psycho night but not really as Sir Thaighu was actually trying to make us wake up and stop making mistakes.

Things to note:
  1. It's not how good u r, it is how u work together
  2. Never leave anyone behind
  3. Rank is what you wear, respect is what you earn
Next up, Chu Xian had prepared us an activity called : An arrangement of an Ops room. Although we were all lost at first, we took initiative to ask around and we started doing our own stuff. We finally understood how the ops room works and how important it is. By the way, Ops room= Operations Room! After that, some of us went to sleep, and the rest including me, went to plan for the company's PT time. I had a hard time keeping the part on the relevance of the subject, its also because i was tired, Yawn; but soon everything was settled. We woke everybody up and began the Phhysical Training at 6.00am. Some of our fellow Part Cs led the company in the stretching. Then we had our relay! We had to form rows amd each person run a distance of 50m. We had to pass a message this time, and all the teams were not successful in passing on the message.

Breakfast time! I forgot what i ate? I am sure some of u rembered?! Part Cs had to pack their belongings and leave early. We had to miss the Sec 1 "parents' orientation", due to the upcoming Specialist Course. After most of us were dismissed, those who were involved in the PDS performance had to stay back to perform for the parents of the new Part A cadets in the hall. It was a wonderful camp as we had to bunk in with our juniors and could learn about them more.

Signing off,

Bryan Ong
