Welcome to the first post. Alistair here. The idea of this blog was by Bryan Ong *clap*. We wanted a platform for us to share and relive our memories.
Let me begin with our company camp. 7 to 8 March 08. Two days one night, although for the past few years it has usually been 3 days 2 nights (I might be wrong). We were supposed to fall in at part bench by 2pm.
Some of us came early, like before 10am. We spent our time reading the specialist knowledge booklets about IFC and Trainfire topics. At about 1pm, we left for lunch at Tanglin CC cafe.
We then fall in (is there past tense for fall in?) at 2pm. Daniel and Alistair (..-.-'') had to leave for PTM. We had attendance taking and after I left, I didn't know what happened. When I came back, the part was split into "C1" and "C2" to practise Command and Control. Some of us did pretty well, but others could improve (me..)
I can't remember clearly what happened in sequence, but after C & C, Sir Thiaghu talked to us about team bonding and "The chain is as strong as its weakest link" where almost everyone couldn't understand...hahaha!..Tian Kai led our part in stretching. Then we jogged around the school track.
We also went into sit-up postions with our hands interlocked, and tired to force each other up. W e were split into pairs and asked to do push-ups in a pair. Sometimes we may feel its easier to work individually as other members might not be doing their job well, but it would be much much more easy if all the members cooperate and do the job fast. Sorry ar, sometimes I go very deep
OK. After that, we had the nightwalk. It was a great bonding experience for all of us. I'm sure all of you remebered the singing of "It Ends Tonight" at the start of the walk. We walked through Botanics Garden to Dempsy Hill area to Orchard Road. At Dempsy Hill, the sky was beautiful, at least for me, that is. We stopped at Burger King where we had our dinner! John was missing soon afterwards, but we found him later!
Ashraf from the air company was queing up behind me at Burger King after everyone had left and went missing for awhile. After i got my food, I told sergeants that he's still queing up. They said nevermind, he knows the way and we continued. (I hope these people don't mind me using their names and hope you know I'm not trying to insult the sergeants. I need to use more details in order for you to remember that day..hopefully =) )
Followed by that, we took a bus back to school's nearest bus stop...We then fall in and had a debrief. Inceh asked us "Who die die must bathe?". All of us didn't answer. However, we were then told off that someone from our part complained to Miss Wee that the sergeants didn't allow us to bathe.
As a form of "punishment", all of us, except those who were involved in their Catholic Societies were told to bathe. Staff geant said at first when Inceh asked us whether we want to bathe, nobody answered, now we landed Inceh into trouble.
But I believe it was a total miscommunication. I could skip this issue and forget about it, but I feel it is important to explain to clear the misunderstanding. (I'm not blaming nor siding anyone) Inceh asked us "Who die die must bathe" which means "Who needs to bathe".
"Wanting'' to bathe and "needing" are 2 different things. E.g "I want to bathe because I feel sweaty, but I don't need to bathe, I guess a powder bathe will do." (I know this is quite extreme)
Our partmate might have just asked Miss Wee permission only for those who want to bathe to bathe.
Moving on, we went to sleep. When I looked at the clock in my bunk, it was 1.40 am. We were woken up at about 2.30 am for "Psycho Night" which wansn't really as "psycho" as I expected. It was more of Sir Thiaghu and Staff geant wanting us to improve our standard and attitude. Sir reminded us of how much effort Jun Hong put in for our part, to the extend that he sacrifices his time to study.
3 points to note from pyscho night:
1. It's not how good you are, it's how good you want to be
2. The chain is as strong as its weakest link
3. Rank is what you wear, respect is what you earn
Next, we went to OPs room. Although we lost at what to do at first, all of us took the initiative to look around and ask. We managed to do what we were supposed to do and learnt more about the functions and importance of a logistic branch.
After which, some of us went to sleep, while others had to stay back for a while longer. It was around 4.30 am.
DAY 2
Most of us woke up about 5.30 am. We slept less than 2 hours...yawn...haha..PT was at 6 am. Some of our fellow Part Cs led the company in the stretching. Then we had our relay! We had to form rows amd each person run a distance of 50 m.
Breakfast time! I can't recall what we ate. I'm sure some of you do. Part Cs had to pack their belongings and leave early. We had to miss the Sec 1 "parents' orientation", due to the upcoming Specialist Course.
I SERIOUSLY CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT ELSE WE DID....oh ya. James and I were song IC and we sang....Must go learn the 'When the cold wind blows"..
After most of us were dismissed, those who were involved in the PDS performance had to stay back to perform for the parents of the new Part A cadets in the hall.
All in all, the camp was great. We had the opportunity to bunk in with cadets from other Parts and bond with them. Who knows that we might assume leadership postions and be in charge of them? =)
Third Sergeant (now you know my rank =D)
